Coombe The South West’s newest acquisition a fantastic woodland creation opportunity
We’ve had a fantastic reaction since launching this exciting campaign just weeks ago – kick started by a generous £750,000 grant from Biffa Award as part of the Landfill Communities Fund, a partnership with the team at Lloyds Banking Group, and support from The John Swire 1989 Charitable Trust.
Set on the slopes of a scenic rural valley in East Devon, this site has areas of broadleaf woodland, several streams, and a scattering of isolated veteran trees.
Over the coming weeks, we’re consulting with neighbours and local communities on plans to bring our vision into fruition, with the first trees being planted in the autumn!
We’ve also pledged to end the use of plastic tree shelters, and this flagship woodland creation project will use a range of techniques to introduce native trees and shrubs, suited the characteristics of the local and wider area.

Volunteering will be vitally important at Coombe, we are currently recruiting for more wildlife monitors who will assist us to obtain a baseline survey, and how this changes as the woodland grows. We are also looking for more woodland working group members to begin with help prepare the land for planting season in Autumn, and will then go on to help look after this new woodland as it grows.
