Hedley Hall Wood has a new volunteer group.

Starting in November 2021 we have a regular volunteers work day ay Hedley Hall Wood, located on the County Durham border with Gateshead.

After a walkabout with some of the new volunteers in early October, the new group of volunteers started their woodland maintenance work on the first Saturday in November.

Intro to Hedley Hall

In line with the Woodland Management plan, the first work session involved Hazel coppice and making a deer protection barriers.

About to start with coppice.

Clearing a way into a thick group of Hazel

Almost completed our first coppiced Hazel.

Everyone was busy as we finished cutting the Hazel stool and prepared to make the deer protection barrier.

A pretty neat deer protection barrier? A big thank you to the new team of volunteers here at Hedley Hall Wood, we have a mix of Ancient Woodland, woodland planted 30 years ago and planting 3 years ago to look after, so more volunteers are always welcome.
