Smithills Community Kit Library is up and running!
The Smithills team wanted to say a big thank you to Ruth Hyde who has made the first donations to our Smithills Community Kit Library, donating countless jumpers, wellies and other bits of kit. Part of our Lottery funding includes commitments to work with community groups across Bolton and we have successfully engaged a diverse range of groups across the town.
Sadly, the groups we invite to join us on the site for walks, conservation tasks etc do not always have access to appropriate kit to be out on what is often a wet, wild and windy estate! For example, during our November tree planting, we were joined by BackUp Bolton, a charity for young people at risk of homelessness in the town. They came to us with tons of motivation and enthusiasm – but not necessarily the right clothing on what was one of the coldest days of the year. They got stuck in and planted for over an hour before the cold and rain got too much for some of them – particularly one girl in ripped jeans, pumps and a jumper!
So we decided we needed to start a kit library so that we could ensure that community groups who were coming to join us on the estate could be propertly protected from the elements. And now, thanks to Ruth (and I believe, her local running club) our kit library is up and running. If anyone has anything they would like to donate to us – particularly boots and wellies, then all donations are most welcome. Please contact Robertagleaves@woodlandtrust.org.uk who will arrange collection from you… or if you are paying us a visit her at Smithills then please do bring it along!)
