Magical Festival of Light a success at Tring
A success despite the weather – Tring Park festival of light.
The weather was against us from the start for the 2019 festival of light, with strong winds and heavy downpours. Staff and volunteers still turned out in force with wellies and waterproofs. Volunteers helped out in roles from welcoming and registration, car parking, marshalling, photography and lantern making. 2000 members of the public braved the winter weather to look at the illuminations. The festival of light is important to us as it brings a whole new audience to Tring Park, and hopefully inspires them to come back again and continue to support us.
Additions for this year included a stunning lantern maze designed by the volunteers and a raindrop tree. We also worked with an artist to display an installation made entirely of plastic bottles. Even if it felt like a battle for members of staff and volunteers, the response from the public was very positive. The event is very reliant on volunteers, with 2000 people coming we have an array of activity roles! We think it is worth this effort for the final effect of the beautiful lights around the park. In light of this, thanks so much to those who came and supported us, we very much appreciate your commitment!
The demand for the event far outstripped ticket numbers, with the event selling out in 4 weeks. With this in mind, maybe even 3 nights next year? Let’s think about that once the central events team has recovered!
