Celebrating volunteers…

Thank you so much for giving your time and commitment to stand up for trees with us. We couldn’t do what we do without our volunteers and this Volunteers’ week we want you to know how important you are.

Whether you’re part of a woodland working group, monitor tree health in your local woods, take photos for us or keep a keen eye out for planning applications which threaten ancient woodland, you are the lifeblood of our organisation.

2018 was a great year to be Britain’s leading cheerleader for woods and trees. The public, politicians, the media… everyone seems to be waking up to the enormous benefits of trees, whether for offsetting climate change, improving soils, protecting against flooding, boosting biodiversity or nurturing the health and mental well-being of our citizens. Our volunteers have been instrumental in moving this awareness forward; we are so grateful for everything you have done and continue to do to champion the cause we all believe in.

Last year was very important for the team as we restructured and launched our new volunteer framework. The success of this has been recognised by the 900+ volunteers that engaged in our survey and helped us achieve that all-important Investing in Volunteers accredited status.

Thank you for your support, it makes the world of difference.

I can honestly say that for me, as a volunteer for the Ancient Tree Inventory since 2007, it honestly and truly has been a pleasure- and still is!
I have met some amazing people, been into some places I would never have known even existed, never mind going into them and seeing some wonderful trees…
Most of all, by recording trees, both by myself and with others and putting them onto the national database, I know that I am making a difference, and helping to protect those ancient trees, so that others can see them and wonder at them, in years to come.

Thank YOU, Woodland Trust, for enabling me to achieve all this, and for all the great times I have had, fun and joy all the way- and it’s not over yet, still many many more special trees to help to preserve….Bless you!
