Message from Beccy

I wanted to let you all know that I have made the very difficult decision to leave the Trust and become the next CEO of the RSPB.

I love the Trust deeply and have had the most amazing and wonderful time working with you all over the past five years.  What a time we have had! It has been an absolute honour and I meant everything I said at the recent staff conference – our cause has never been more relevant and some important doors are really opening for us. The Trust is thriving and making a real difference for its cause.

But I believe life is an adventure – and that means not passing by this kind of opportunity. The RSPB is an organisation I admire enormously and I think I am the right person to help it be the kind of force we all need it to be in the sector right now.

I’ll be around until early August so there will be plenty of time to say goodbye and to thank you all for your amazing work.  And in the meantime, there is plenty to be getting on with!

I’m going to hand over to our Chair, Barbara, now, who can let you know next steps below.

See you all soon I hope.

With love and admiration,

The Board and I are very sorry to hear that Beccy will be leaving us.  Over the last five years under her leadership, we have seen positive changes as the 10 year strategy became embedded and the Woodland Trust has grown its focus, profile and influence, as well as growing our woods!   We are a bigger and better organisation thanks to her and I am confident that as an organisation we are in a great place to continue the excellent work we are already doing for our cause.

As Beccy says, she will be with us until August, so we will take time over the next few days to determine what the next steps will be.  As you can imagine, replacing Beccy is not going to be an easy or quick task and the Board Affairs Committee and myself will be starting that process in the next couple of weeks.   I will make sure that we keep everyone informed as appropriate.

In the meantime, I know you will want to join me in thanking Beccy for her unstinting efforts for the cause of woods and trees and wishing her every success in her new appointment.
