Super Campaigner News – May 2019

We’ve go a huge amount in the pipeline for May  – plenty for you to get your teeth stuck into. I also need to apologise to you because it appears that I failed to publish last months news! I’ll try to pack it into here instead.

Ok, first things first: your monthly volunteer survey can be found here. Please fill it in before the end of the Bank Holiday (6 May).

A new addition

I’m also pleased to share some news about the campaigns team. At the beginning of April we welcomed our new Head of Campaigns, Adam Cormack. I’m sure you’ll join me us in wishing him the best of luck as he takes the reigns. I’m sure that you’ll be hearing much more from him in the future, once he’s found his feet a bit!

APPG success

It seems like a long time ago now, but I wanted to thank you for your support with the campaign to invite MPs to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Ancient and Veteran Trees. The meeting was a success and had a good turn out despite the fact that it was back to back with a key announcement on Brexit from the Prime Minister. In fact – our Government Affairs team thought it was one of the most productive meetings they’ve had!

Upcoming Campaigns:

I’ve been harping on about The Time is Now mass lobby of parliament for weeks now – and nothings changed! This month will see us launch the registration form. I’d love you all to be there! Please sign up as soon as you can – as well as directly lobbying your MP it will also be a lovely opportunity for us to get together.

May also brings nominations for 2019’s tree of the year. This is your chance to get your favourite tree recognised with the Oscar of the forest world. I’ll send you more information when it’s live, but get thinking in the meantime!

In England our Environment Bill action is continuing. If you haven’t already then please email your MP using http://www.woodlandtru.st/glKEn and share the action in your networks. The legislation will impact land use for years to come – so it’s essential that the law is ambitious and robust.

In Scotland there is separate legislation in the pipeline. Named the Environment Act it will serve a similar purpose as the Environment Bill in England. We’re taking combined action with other charities who are active in Scotland. You can find the campaign here: http://bit.ly/2X4vIyY  . This campaign shuts on May 11th – so you’ve not got long!

In Wales we’re continue to campaign on agroforestry, asking for more planting and funding for management of existing woodland. The campaign is here

So – lots for you to get stuck into. I’ve not declared Super Campaigner of the month – you can all have it this time. But it’ll be back next time so do let me know what you’ve been up to. If you’ve ever got any ideas you’d like to talk through then I’m always around for a chat.

Best wishes to you all
