Royal Highland Show helpers wanted
Are you a volunteer in Scotland and do you fancy helping out on our stand at the Royal Highland Show?
If so, here are a few details to help you to decide:
We are looking for two volunteers per day from 20th – 23rd June. It’s always hard work but great fun and very rewarding.
1. How long do I have to be on the WTS stand?
The stand must be manned from 0900 to 1800 each day. In order to make best use of ticket costs, everyone is expected to complete the entire day. The Day Supervisor will ensure everyone has a minimum 1 hour break. Please make sure you have looked at the rota and arrive on time. If you are late, please let the Day Supervisor know asap.
2. How do I get in to the Show?
You will be posted an entry ticket in advance. You will need a separate daily pass for each day you are attending.
3. What should I wear/bring?
Most of the RHS is outdoors (though our stand is covered). Please bring suitable warm/waterproof clothing/sun hat and wear your green branded WTS t-shirt or gilet. Dress is smart/casual with comfortable footwear. Walkways get muddy if the weather is wet so you may want to wear boots to get from the car park. There is an area to leave your things but please take responsibility for your belongings as it is not secure.
4. Can I bring my dog?
No, too many livestock and the tent may get hot.
5. What do I do about expenses?
We pay your ticket entry. You can claim lunch, refreshments and mileage/public transport costs. Volunteers will be emailed an expenses sheet before the event – please send this to our Accounts Department in Grantham.
• Lunch expense limit is £7.50
• All expenses require a VAT receipt
• If a claim is for more than one person, this needs to be detailed and the amount split
There are ATM facilities on site but they tend to get very busy and you may be charged for their use.
6. Where is the RHS and how do I get there?
The show address is East Gate, Royal Highland Centre, Ingliston, Edinburgh, EH28 8NF (adjacent to the airport). Because of the estimated volume of traffic, public transport is recommended. For bus/tram/train options, see: https://www.royalhighlandshow.org/visitors/
If you decide to take your car, please add extra time to your journey and make sure you check: https://www.royalhighlandshow.org/media/1853/rhs-travel-to-show-by-car-2017.pdf. Drivers will need a parking pass – costs £10/day payable in cash on the day or £8 if you purchase an advance prepaid car parking e-ticket.
