Smithills tree planting day success!
Just a quick message to say thank you to all of you for making the tree planting day such a success… Rob B, Phil C, Hanifah, Sue, Doug, George, Margaret, Jack, Tony and Richard for working with Mark, Andy & Richard to make tree planting for hundreds of people seem like an effortless operation… Alex, Pete, Lawrence, Mike and Rob A for managing the car park with Chris, Pam for working with me to welcome groups, take them up to the planting site and answer millions of questions from the public.
What a team!
Together we helped 372 people plant 2500 trees. People visited today from Bolton, Darwen, Congleton, Worcester, Oxford, Bacup, Salford and Manchester (that I know of from chatting to people), and groups included the 35th Bolton Star Scouts, the Fire Cadets, Bolton Christian Cohesion, Bolton Council of Mosques, the Prince’s Trust, a Sri Lankan community group, plenty of Bolton residents, Woodland Trust supporters from far and wide, and a group planting a larger tree in memory of Councillor Andrew Morley.
People were writing dedications on the tree tubes to people important to them, and the planting seemed to give a lot of people an incentive to get more involved with us at Smithills. A day of the community coming together to create a new woodland… we were all part of a lovely thing yesterday. Thank you all!
