Cheshire and Merseyside Volunteer Gathering

Well, what a fabulous day we had on Saturday. Wonderful company, beautiful spring sunshine and lovely food, we couldnt have asked for more!

A huge thanks to everyone who came along and joined us at our first North England volunteer gathering of the year at Norton Priory, near Runcorn. It was wonderful to see so many people there. Thanks to Norton Priory for hosting our day in such a fascinating and inspirational location. A really interesting morning was spent hearing from a range of speakers. these included:

  • Tony Da Silva , from the Carbon Landscape project and Nigel balding from Friends of Gorse Covert Mounds in regard to work going on in partnership with  Friends of Gorse Covert Mounds at Pesturlong Moss.
  • Tony Hickinbottom, talking all about the Earth Skills Project who work on a whole range of projects in partnership with Woodlabnd Trust across the area
  • Neil Oxley with an update on all the activty happening on local Woodland Trust sites
  • Sarah Cooley, Campaigns Volunteer coordinator with updates on all of our citozen science projects

We were very kindly treated to a green woodworking demonstration from Tony from The Earth Skills project , where people had a chance to try their hand, before joining Paul Quigley, Ranger at Norton Priory, as well as a Woodland Trust volunteer warden, for a fantastic walk around the priory gardens.

Many thanks!

Claire Green- Volunteer Development Officer, North
