Busy Building Boardwalks with Bilton Conservation Volunteers
Bilton Conservation Volunteers have been hard at work down at Nidd Gorge, restoring and creaying boardwalks on the Bilton side of our site, near Knaresborough.
The group have been creating a dedicated walkway along this notoriously wet section to avoid a network of worn paths , such as the one in the picture above on the right, which destroy so much of the sensitive ground flora. The frost had melted but it was still a pretty chilly day at the bottom of the gorge some 150 feet below the surrounding fields!
With another 15 metres to complete in the next couple of weeks…weather permitting, this should really help protect the fabulous ground flora of the site for all to enjoy.
