Working with the Friends of the Railway Path

We have for the past few years, been working with the Friends of the Railway Path, to provide materials for their hedge laying activities, from either Stratton or Warneage Woods.

The Friends group is a charity that maintains the 11-mile path running from Coate Water Country Park in Swindon, to Marlborough, mostly along the line of the former Midlands and South West Junction Railway line. The railway closed in 1967, and the cycle path was created in 1988

Railway path volunteers have again joined the task days at Stratton Wood this year and collected materials for the Railway path. The Swindon Borough Council have assisted in transporting the materials from Stratton, over to Coate Water, for the task days.

Dick Millard one of the volunteers said ‘ After a delayed start (which avoided the worst of the weather, which once again turned out nice for us), 9 of us continued laying the hedge alongside the path just north of the motorway.  We were pleased to see that the stretch we laid 2 years ago is putting up lots of shoots.  Today we created another 20 yards of laid hedge’
