Mossland Restoration at Pestfurlong Moss
We are delighted to announce that work has started last week on Pestfurlong Moss (part of Gorse Covert Mounds at Birchwood near Warrington) to restore the peat mossland. Work has been undertaken to install a series of plastic piling dams at key locations to re-wet this site, which is drying out. Delivered by the Carbon Landscape Project with support from Natural England, Lancashire Wildlife Trust and Warrington Borough Council. the project is being funded by Enovert landfill funding that has been secured by the Carbon Landscape Project (CLP) with help and input from Woodland Trust Site Manager, Neil Oxley and Regional Fundraising Development Officer, Sara Wood. Our Woodland Trust volunteer group for the site have been working closely with CLP helping with a variety of conservation activities as part of the project.
The photo is of some of the new dams that have been installed in old drainage ditches and which are being covered with peat so they blend into the environment.
