Armistice Day Memorial Service at Thorn Wood
To commemorate the centenary of the signing of the Armistice in 1918, Weaverham Memorial Orchard Group held an Ecumenical Service of Remembrance at the Memorial Orchard, Thorn Wood on Thursday, 15th November 2018, inviting other groups that work on this site to the service. The orchard group lease a small area of the woodland from the woodland Trust, on which they have planted over one hundred apple trees of a an almost extinct species, Wareham Russet, which is native to the village.
Members of the Thorn Wood Woodland Group attended the service. The event, which was attended by over one hundred people, including local schools, was a great example of how different groups can come together and take part in such and event to commemorate and remember.
