New Asian Hornet outbreak – South Cornwall

There is a new confirmed an outbreak of Asian hornet in Fowey, south Cornwall.  Two specimens of the hornets were trapped on August 31 by a beekeeper.  The contingency plan has been implemented and the National Bee Unit at APHA are leading the response.  Unlike the previous records this year (for a ferry between Poole and Cherbourg in August and in Bury in April) it is likely that this represents a nest.  The main objective of the response is now to locate and destroy the nest as soon as possible.
