Copeland Bird Observatory – Opportunity for weekend volunteering 29 June – 1 July
Please note this event is not organised by the Woodland Trust, if you have any questions please contact the organisers directly.
TCV have a very exciting opportunity for weekend volunteering on the Copeland Bird Observatory off the coast of Donaghadee.
The task will be habitat management of designated areas to promote the breeding of migratory birds. This will be cutting back vegetation, strimming and creating paths through glades for pedestrian access to monitor nesting sites. The project will be led by Chris Wood and Ian Humphreys (CBO volunteer and CEO of Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful).
The island offers a tranquil setting for conservation volunteering and is a stunning place to visit. Local volunteers will provide a tour of the island and you can accompany them during the night to monitor and ring visiting birds. Accommodation is basic and the island offers a unique toilet experience with their ‘loo with a view’.
Dates: Friday 29 June – meet at Donaghadee harbour 5.30pm – boat departs to CBO at 6pm
Sunday 1 July – boat departs CBO 4pm
TCV can offer travel to site for a limited number of volunteers leaving Belfast at 5pm.
The opportunity is free! TCV will provide all food for the weekend. Volunteers need to bring a sleeping bag, suitable work clothes for two days and appropriate footwear.
More information is available on their website.
Anyone interested in joining the project should contact Helen Tomb before 5pm on Monday 25 June.
