Breeding success for Canal Wood Swans
For the past 3 years our resident swans at Canal Wood haven’t bred successfully. With low water levels in the main ditch beside Canal Wood and excessive weed growth in the adjacent canal the odds have been against them.
Canal Wood volunteers have been liaising with the Rivers Agency and over the past year have established a good working relationship and as a result both the canal and the drain were cleared in the Autumn of 2017.
Following this work we have the wonderful outcome of a successful breeding of a pair of swans who have been in residence in and around Canal Wood since our volunteer group started working there in 2012!
Say hello to the new additions of Canal Wood – 4 beautiful cygnets!
