Sainsbury’s staff visit Hedley Hall Woods
Hedley Hall Woods played host to over twenty willing volunteers from Sainsbury’s at the start of March.
Staff from stores across the North East joined coppice worker Ruth Thompson and site manager Richard Wilson for a day exploring and learning about this key northern Woodland Trust site. The morning was spent making biochar (a type of charcoal used to enhance soil health), before heading out around the site for a fascinating guided walk led by Richard and Gary Haley, the Woodland Trust’s North East lead for the Treescapes programme. Thanks to everyone who made the day such a success.
Sainsbury’s is the Woodland Trust’s largest corporate partner. More than £7 million has been raised since the partnership started in 2004, allowing over three million trees to be planted.
