Thorn Wood group goes from strength to strength
The volunteer group at Thorn Wood, which is on the outskirts of Northwich, Cheshire, is a relatively new group which was borne out of the work done by Saltscape; a local project that came to an end in 2017.
Since its beginnings a few months ago, the group has been carrying out coppicing work in the wood. We also identified a pond which had become overgrown with brambles and was effectively hidden away behind trees; and so spent a very pleasant late-winter day opening up access to the pond. A local Civic Society have also been helping out with various tasks, and are looking to improve access around the Wood
As group leaders, my wife and I have set out a programme of activity for the forthcoming year, which includes removal of ragwort, and Himalayan Balsam, as well as removal of litter etc. As volunteer numbers at the wood continue to grow, and the group goes from strength to strength we are looking forward to making further improvements the wood.
