Canine clampdown at Moncrieffe Hill
We are running a campaign for better behaved dogs and dog owners at Moncreiffe Hill Wood outside Perth.
There has been a spate of problems including livestock disturbance, fouling and out of control dogs jumping on people.
Site manager Jill Aitken decided it was time to steer dog owners back to better habits.
Posters with a Canine Code of Conduct have been put up at the entrances. We have generated some coverage of the problems in the local press.
Woodland Trust staff and volunteers will be spending time on the main gate and patrolling the site over the next few weeks, speaking to dog owners with a friendly reminder of what constitutes responsible behaviour. Council dog wardens, who can issue fines for fouling, are also going to give the woods some extra attention.
We welcome responsible dog walkers. Please ensure you follow our dog walker’s code of conduct so we all enjoy walking here:
- Keep dogs on a lead or under close control (within sight and able to respond to recall)
- Never allow dogs to chase wildlife or jump up on others
- Walk no more than 6 dogs at a time
- Clean up after your dog and dispose of all waste in a bin (never leave bags of waste in the wood)
Obviously these are common and widespread problems but we hope a blast of activity will improve matters.
