Big clear out at Spud wood
A big clear up was carried out recently at Spud Wood in Lymm by Woodland Trust volunteers, supported by management staff from the Bridgewater Canal Company and their contractors. Members of the Friends of Spud Wood spent more than 35 hours clearing and chipping brash in the wood, which adjoins the Bridgewater canal.
The aim of the group is to help support the management of the woodland and the support offered by the Bridgewater Canal Company made a very positive contribution to this. The brash is a by-product of the tree thinning management work that the group have been running and is now in its fifth year. Friends of Spud Wood also organise regular events for the local community including coppicing days and seasonal nature walks. A big thanks to the many individual organisations who support the concept of Spud Wood in its ongoing successful development as a local community woodland.
